FAQ: Samsung Galaxy Tab Review

FAQ Hi, I'm thinking of buying one of these on ebay for about $100. It says it is for Sprint cause it has wi-fi and 3g. I don't have Sprint. So my first question is... can I still use this just connected to my home wi-fi, or do I HAVE to have Sprint.

A: I've had a play with one of these in the store, and they're pretty nifty, compared to the iPad, they're noticeably smaller, chunkier but generally seem like they could be a lot of fun to have.

$100 is a fantastic deal though if it's genuine.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (US Cellular)

The U.S. Cellular Tab is actually the same hardware as the Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 ($629.99), which we gave a 3.5-star rating to when we reviewed it last September. But as often happens when carriers are six months late with a product, we're knocking the tablet down half a point because the world has moved on, but the Galaxy Tab 10.1 hasn't.

The Galaxy Tab is a now-traditional slab-style tablet, 10.1 by 6.9 by .34 inches (HWD) and 19.9 ounces. It has a 10.1-inch, 1280-by-800 screen (thus the name) and a slightly textured gray back. It's slim and relatively light for a tablet its size. U.S. Cellular's one model is the 32GB unit, which offers about 27GB of space for user files; there's also a microSD card slot. Battery life was similar to the new Apple iPad, at 5 hours, 15 minutes of video playback time with the screen brightness cranked up to max. (The Galaxy Tab has a lower-resolution screen than the iPad, but it's also considerably lighter.)

The tablet runs Google Android Honeycomb 3.2 with Samsung's TouchWiz extensions, including a little bar of desk accessory-like applications including a calendar and memo pad which pop up from the bottom of the screen.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 first impression review

The first true Honeycomb tablet went on sale yesterday -- preorders for most folks and actual hardware for people lucky enough to be in New York and close to the  Best Buy Union Square . I got the 16GB Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi late Tuesday afternoon, from Samsung for review. I highly anticipated the Tab 10.1, simply because it's not iPad, it packs Android 3.1 "Honeycomb" and has impressive hardware specs.

A Matter of Dimensions

First impressions are everything with any new product. What's it like coming out of the box? Bad first impressions and the negative buzz that followed it doomed Windows Vista. People waited too long for the OS to boot up and then they were assaulted by seemingly endless popups whenever installing software or going on the Web. Vista wasn't a bad operating system, it just had a bad rap. First impression was major reason.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Or 10.1 LTE Coming To AT&T At Some Point According To ... Just take a look: The guys over at WirelessGoodness dug up this picture from a recent FCC filing, and it clearly shows the device is either a Tab 10.1 or 8.9, and that it has the official AT&T 4G LTE logo. Hard to call that a "rumor.
