A: The Kindle is a great way to read and store books. My primary purpose in buying it was so I no longer have to sort through books periodically deciding which ones to get rid of due to space limitations. It's also nice that eBooks are usually cheaper

You can take the code, do with it what you will. In theory, your changes should also be available to the open-source community, but that doesn’t always seem to work out. Nevertheless, the key point is this: Open source software is designed to encourage creativity and innovation, at the lowest cost possible.

But until recently, that’s not what’s been going on with Android, Google’s open-source mobile operating system. Since its release in 2007, Google has managed to convince the makers of Android devices that they would benefit by having the search giant’s stamp of approval on their products. But to get that approval, the manufacturers had to adhere to certain rules.

Those rules were enough to make most Android phones look similar, but hardly identical. What users end up with are phones that follow loose design guidelines, but aren’t exactly consistent. In an attempt to differentiate the phones, handset makers and wireless carriers add crapware and interface overlays, which compound the inconsistencies.
